Swing-tastic Workshops ~ Fridays

Dates: Friday January 10 – February 28, 2025 (8 weeks >> 3 fantastic themes)

Time: Fridays from 7:00 – 7:50 pm

Workshop 1: Lifts & Tricks ~ All levels

Dates: January 10, 17 & 24

Lifts (or air steps) are dynamic and captivating swing dance tricks in which one’s feet leave the floor.  A partner is needed for these workshops in order to attend.

Workshop 2:  Shine Up Your Shim Sham 

Dates: January 31 & February 7

In 1926, Willie Bryant and Leonard Reed met while performing in the Whitman Sister’s shows.  For the show’s finale, they created a Tap routine called Goofus.  In the 1930s, the dance was renamed the Shim Sham Shimmy.

Frankie Manning and his friends learned these steps from tap dancers and then practiced at the legendary Savoy Ballroom while the main social swing dance was happening.  Rather than tap, they would dance it as a line jazz dance.  Today, this iconic dance dance lives on and it’s still danced all around the world!

This 2 week workshop will give you a chance to refine and gain more confidence in your solo movements through the lens of the Shim Sham.  We will also teach some fun and playful variations to spice things up!

Workshop 3:  Style-O-Rama

Dates: February 14, 21 & 28

Add some nifty and new styling ideas to your Swing dancing!  Learn some tips and tricks on how to add more flair, fierceness and creativity to your social dancing!

 Please bring a clean pair of indoor shoes to dance in.
